Hydraulic system for installing pistons into the liners of large marine engines

Equipment for ship propulsion engines

PLACE: Japan

Area: Off Shore

Special high-pressure hydraulic equipment designed to facilitate the insertion of pistons into the liners of large marine engines.

FPT has developed special equipment consisting of a cylinder, its mounting brackets, piping, and a lever-operated pump. The cylinder is made of aluminum to reduce weight, with a maximum lifting capacity of 2,400 kg at a pressure of 120 bar. The cylinder is clamped and positioned inside the liner, then connected to a two-stage lever pump, model PDSA-21, via pre-assembled flexible hoses equipped with the appropriate quick-connect fittings and a one-way flow control valve.

When pressure is applied to the circuit, the cylinder, aided by Teflon slides, helps position the connecting rod in its housing. Once positioning is complete, hydraulic clamping can be performed using the system’s tensioners.
